I finished this book last night and enjoyed it. I liked how we got to see the history of each of the characters. I think this provides us with more insight into the characters and their behaviors and helps us to understand if not sympathize with them and their actions. I found the ending where Pecola is talking to her "friend" about her blue eyes very sad. And the treatment of others towards her over what Cholly did to her cruel. She was only a child and everyone knew a very shy and backwards one at that.

i enjoyed it, too. although these characters were at times as flawed as pip, i had WAY more sympathy.

Really liked this book. Disturbing, though. I loved the Morrison's writing style. I can see why she won the Pulitzer.

Wow, you all are moving right along! I dug the book out of my many TBR boxes, but I haven't started it yet. I'm really looking forward to it!

I wasn't planning on reading this one, I was planning on reading The Fellowship of the Ring. However, due to the size of FotR (I have a three in one, huge book), which I know I can't finish in one month, I may have to read this one instead. I'm glad to hear y'all enjoyed it!

Michaelann, I glad to hear you enjoyed it. I haven't started yet, but if today is slow at work I'll get a bit of reading done. I can't wait!

Thanks for initial comments, Miss Hum. I hope you'll weigh in on some of the posted discussion questions, too.

Belinda, Morrison's writing style seems to be a "love it" or "hate it" issue with most readers. I'm glad you loved it!

When I read Song of Solomon in the past, I didn't like Toni Morrison's style. This book completely won me over!

I just finished it, and I loved it. After the first 10 pages, I was concerned that I wouldn't and put it down. Once, I picked it back up I finished it in about 4 hours. It was raw, disturbing, funny and poetic. I am so glad I read it.

I just finished it but while it was poetic, I didnt like it. The background into the characters was interesting. But most of all I just felt pity for most of the characters and revulsion for quite a few. I am just not sure I would ever have read this without this challenge...

I am interested in this challenge, if a book is on the large side reading a few chapiters a day along with my other contemporary books will work out fine. I haven't read all the rules, I was going to begin with Henry James.

I have read 3 books on the list, which still leaves me 9, will begin with the month of March.

I loved her writing style and marked several lines that I liked...but the racial hatred was disturbing to me. Sadly, racial tensions are a part of the world we live in, but thankfully we have improved over where we once were, with the realization there is more work left.

The character of Pecola was heart breaking. Overall this book was beautifully written but sad on so many levels.

I finished last weekend and just finally got around to posting my review.

On signing up for the challenge I had expected to be substituting most of the books. I just checked back a few days ago to find you were working on The Bluest Eye which I've been wanting to read. I am already reading something else-Deryni Checkmate, 2nd of The Chronicles of the Deryni by Katherine Kurtz. It was lent to me by a local librarian and not readily available, so I'm trying to finish and get it back to her.

I see March is another I would like to read, but I just got a copy of The Audacity of Hope by Barak Obama from the library. With it constantly being on hold, I will have to finish it quickly.

Ugh! I totally couldn't get into this book! I don't know if it was the distasteful subject or just my mood. I'm leaning mood, because I didn't read much of anything in February! I hope I can catch up in March!

I have finally posted my thoughts on The Bluest Eye on my own blog - but I will warn you, they aren't exactly "deep". And they are mixed in with a bunch of other random sentiments (scroll down to number seven). http://www.redredwhine.com/?p=827
